PicoWay is used at BioPlus to treat pigmentation including age spots and sun damage, melasma, freckles, acne scars, wrinkles, and unwanted tattoos in all ink colours. The picosecond pulse duration combined with multiple wavelengths makes PicoWay one of the most versatile pigment and resurfacing platforms available.

PicoWay delivers energy in picoseconds, which is one trillionth of a second. This ultra-short pulse shatters pigment particles into a fine dust through a photoacoustic effect rather than heat, which reduces collateral damage to surrounding skin. PicoWay also offers three wavelengths in one platform, which means it can target a wider range of ink colours, including the stubborn greens and blues that older nanosecond lasers struggle with.

Yes. Because PicoWay uses picosecond pulses with minimal heat transfer to surrounding tissue, it carries a significantly lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation than older laser technologies. PicoWay is FDA-cleared for treatment across all Fitzpatrick skin types, including medium and darker skin tones that have historically faced higher risk with other resurfacing or pigment-targeting lasers.

Most patients describe the sensation as a series of quick, hot snaps against the skin, often compared to a rubber band flick. Most pigment and rejuvenation treatments do not require numbing. For tattoo removal or more sensitive areas, a topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to keep you comfortable.

Session length depends on the treatment area and concern. Small spot treatments such as a single tattoo or a focused pigmentation patch may take 10 to 20 minutes. Full-face rejuvenation or melasma treatments typically take 20 to 30 minutes. Larger tattoos or multiple areas may take longer.

Downtime is typically minimal. Most patients experience mild redness or slight swelling that resolves within a few hours to a day. Tattoo removal may produce frosting or pinpoint bleeding that scabs and heals within one to two weeks. Your practitioner will give you a clear post-treatment care plan based on your specific treatment.

For pigmentation and skin rejuvenation, most patients need 3 to 5 sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Melasma may require ongoing maintenance. Tattoo removal typically requires 5 to 10 sessions depending on tattoo size, ink colour, depth, and age. Your medical team will build a personalised plan during your consultation.

For pigmentation treatments, you may see visible lightening within one to two weeks as the body clears the fragmented pigment through the lymphatic system. Tattoo removal results progress gradually with each session as the body continues to flush ink particles. Skin rejuvenation results typically continue developing over three to six months as collagen remodelling completes.

PicoWay offers three wavelengths (532nm, 785nm, and 1064nm), making it one of the most colour-versatile picosecond lasers available. It effectively treats black, blue, green, red, orange, yellow, and most coloured inks. Very light pastels and white inks remain difficult for any laser technology to remove, and your practitioner will assess your tattoo during consultation to set realistic expectations.
